How Can We Help?
CBD Oil for managing nausea
If you often suffer from nausea and want to avoid typical medication with side effects, give CBD oil a try. Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of over 100 cannabinoids found in the hemp plant that alleviates many health problems. CBD oil is made by extracting the CBD compound from the twigs, leaves, and flowers of the hemp plant, then diluting it with hemp seed, olive, or coconut oil. Currently, there is plenty of positive feedback from people who take CBD oil for their gut problems, and scientists are slowly catching up with this ancient knowledge. Nausea is one of the digestive tract problems that CBD oil can alleviate because it is a natural anti-emetic that is safe to use over a long period.
Nausea associated with alcohol withdrawal symptoms
Alcohol is a sedative. An alcoholic who stops taking alcohol experiences heightened stimulation which can lead to withdrawal symptoms and dangerous behavior. Nausea is one of those many withdrawal symptoms. A few successive sleepless nights during withdrawal will worsen the withdrawal symptoms, which is why medical treatment is required. After medical treatment, cravings and milder withdrawal symptoms may persist. That is when CBD oil’s calming effects and its ability to prevent withdrawal-related seizures are needed.
Scientific evidence has confirmed that CBD is potentially effective for treating some substance abuse withdrawal symptoms including nausea. It can also help regenerate brain cells and prevent relapse. For alcoholics, CBD oil does not just alleviate nausea, it can help the process with very mild to moderate side effects.
Chemotherapy-induced nausea
In one study, 60% of the patients undergoing both highly emetogenic chemotherapy and moderately emetogenic chemotherapy continued to suffer from nausea and vomiting despite being given antiemetic therapy. Another study found that up to 80% of the patients who experience chemotherapy-induced vomiting tend to delay or refuse future chemotherapy. It is obvious that cancer patients need an alternative therapy for nausea and vomiting. Fortunately, CBD oil can help reduce nausea, and therefore a good addition for cancer patients going through chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
Human and animal studies have shown that a combination of THC and CBD provide relief from anticipatory, acute, and delayed nausea in patients going through chemotherapy. This is why the American Cancer Society includes cannabinoids on its list of drugs for managing nausea and vomiting in cancer patients. It clearly states that cannabinoids help where regular anti-nausea and antiemetic drugs can’t help.
Because of CBD’s effectiveness, the American Food and Drug Administration approved Nabilone and Dronabinol, synthetic cannabis-derived drugs for chemotherapy-related nausea and vomiting. This is proof that CBD oil works.
How CBD works in the body
The human body has an endocannabinoid system which was discovered by scientists in the 1990s. The system produces certain amounts of cannabinoids known as endocannabinoids. It also has two types of receptors called CB1 receptors and CB2 receptors. It may have more receptors but, so far, scientists have discovered these two. CBD is quite similar to some of the endocannabinoids, so it is easy for the body to work effectively and efficiently with it. It does not directly act on either receptor, but it seems to enhance the body’s ability to synthesize and use more of its own cannabinoids. That is how it manages to have many health effects in many body systems.
Animal studies led scientists to believe that CBD quells nausea because it interacts with serotonin receptors. Serotonin is a hormone that controls how one feels, i.e., the mood, motion sickness, and general well-being.
Best type of CBD for nausea
Because a combination of CBD and THC has been found to be more effective for nausea, it is wise to look for full-spectrum CBD oil. It contains all the naturally occurring cannabinoids, including less than 0.3% THC. It is different from pure CBD oil which does not contain any THC
