Cannabis Regulation in New Zealand
Currently in New Zealand possession and growing of cannabis is illegal, however due to strong public pressure this will change in the near future. In 2017 laws loosened around cannabis extracts and its use as a medicine due to the growing amount of evidence to support its benefits. It is now legal for a doctor to prescribe pharmaceutical grade CBD oil.
It is ILLEGAL to buy CBD oil and other hemp or cannabis oils online and bring it into NZ.

Buying CBD Oil in 2021
As at March 1st 2021 CBD is legal in New Zealand but only via a doctor’s prescription. If you have a doctor open to the use of CBD oil, they can write you a prescription for CBD oil. If you don’t have a regular doctor or are looking for somewhere to get a prescription our best recommendation to help people all over New Zealand is book a tele-medicine consultation. You can have a consultation from the comfort of your own home with a doctor over a video or phone call and be prescribed that way.
You CANNOT legally buy CBD oil from online shops or health stores without a prescription. If you buy CBD from an overseas shop you run the risk of losing it at customs. If you come across a website selling CBD in New Zealand, they are doing so illegally.
