CBD or cannabidiol is one of the most abundant cannabinoids created by the cannabis plant. Unlike THC, its psychoactive counterpart, CBD has no intoxicating affect and is known for it’s vast range of health benefits. Typically, CBD comes in an oil form, extracted from the resin on the bud of the cannabis plant and consumed as drops or vaporised. However with different names like cannabis, hemp, and marijuana, there is often confused as to where CBD oil generally comes from.
The booming cannabis and CBD oil market has driven some incredible innovation when it comes to consumer products. With the growing number of studies supporting cannabinoids and their role in improving health and even helping fight some diseases, the applications for cannabis products like CBD oil has also grown. This has resulted in many different ways to consume cannabis-derived products to best treat different issues and appeal to the user’s tastes.
When looking for a CBD Oil product you’ll usually come across two main options. Firstly CBD isolate, often up to 99% pure, this is CBD in its isolated form away from all other plant molecules. Secondly CBD Oil, sometimes called Hemp Oil, or Full Spectrum CBD Oil which has much lower levels of CBD but also includes a wide array of other cannabinoids, terpenes and plant molecules. If you’re wondering which is best, check out this piece by Dr Ron Goedeke, featured on the Ministry of Hemp website.
All pets need to be properly taken care of. Those of us who have been lucky enough to have had pets since childhood had this drummed into by our parents. A pet is for life and the life of the pet has value, even purpose. Grooming, feeding, exercise and bathing are all part of pet ownership and of course providing a place the animal considers home is essential. However, as pet health has become more understood, mental issues and conditions in pets have been noted and have become something pet owners are becoming aware of. Because of this pet care has become even more important with more to take into consideration.
Not that long ago when people thought of cannabis, the image of a stoned hippy smoking a sweet smelling substance came to mind. While cannabis in itself is slowly being legalised around the world it was not long before a new name appeared on the market. CBD oil a wonderful extract from cannabis without the THC high, has gained notoriety as a superb pain killer and health supplement. Initially, CBD was only available in an oil tincture or softgel form, and even today these are the best known of the CBD products but there is now so much more.
If you’ve done some research into CBD oil and looked at buying it, you may have come across a wide range of international CBD products online that appear much cheaper than anything you find in New Zealand and there are a few reasons for this. As of April 1st 2020, New Zealand’s definition of a CBD product remains ill-advised.
CBD or Cannabidiol is becoming an increasingly sought after medicine and supplement. Its non-psychoactive nature has made it popular even though its association with cannabis has raised many questions. CBD is primarily sourced from hemp, the non-intoxicating strain of cannabis.
New Zealand’s CBD market is still in its infancy with only a very small number of products available through a prescription only so your chances of getting a fake CBD product through a prescription is little to none. Put simply, if you obtain your CBD through a doctor or pharmacy is is legit, if you buy it online, it is either not CBD, or you’re obtaining it illegally as of writing this, October, 2020.
Many people suffering from the long-term effects of concussions are turning to CBD for alleviation of symptoms and recovery. Concussions are common in people involved in vehicle accidents, in kids and adults who accidentally fall, and most common among sports persons, particularly those who play contact sports such as rugby. While some people have short-term symptoms and recover on their own, others have long-term symptoms that require medical assistance. Since typical medication only alleviates symptoms temporarily, many people are turning to CBD since it helps brain cells to recover and alleviates most symptoms.
Cannabis has been used for thousands of years for medicinal and spiritual purposes. Since it was banned due to psychoactive effects, scientists focused on varieties with less tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which causes those psychoactive effects. In such varieties, cannabidiol or CBD is the most prevalent cannabinoid and is responsible for many medicinal effects. CBD is mostly used as CBD oil which has been extensively studied since the middle of the 20th century. Here are some of the scientific findings from human trials.
Hemp Oil and CBD Oil are two terms you might come across when looking for the right CBD product that could mean the same thing or be completely different so it is important to understand them.
CBD (cannabidiol) is the therapeutic molecule found in cannabis that is so sought after right now. Pretty much all retail CBD is extracted from hemp plants which is the name given to cannabis strains with less than 0.3% THC.
Produced from the cannabis plant, CBD is becoming widely recognised for its medicinal properties in the treatment of a variety of conditions. Many people will more than raise and eyebrow at the mention of cannabis but because CBD does not contain THC no high can come from using the powerful substance. Despite the lack of THC, many other known benefits of the chemical compound remain, not least its ability to lower stress and reduce anxiety.
CBD oil is rapidly claiming some fame as a “cure-all” miracle supplement. This is not quite factual, the claim to fame is but being the answer to all medical conditions and curing them is not. CBD has a variety of health and medical benefits, some proven scientifically, and others still being tested.

The earliest reports on the medicinal use of the cannabis plant can be traced to as far back as 5000 years ago where it was used as part of ancient Chinese and Roman medicine in the treatment of tapeworm infections and wound healing. Although the mechanisms of action were not properly understood at that time, there was a clear indication that the cannabis plant can promote wound healing and skin health.
